HP joins forces with Arkema on new 3D printing polymer for smoother surfaces

HP will be presenting a new material at the upcoming Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) conference in Chicago. A new polymer for 3D printing has been developed in collaboration with Arkema. The PA 12 S material promises significantly improved surfaces and reduced costs for users of the HP Jet Fusion 5200 3D printer. It will also be available for the 5600 series later this spring.

The introduction of PA 12 S, enabled by Arkema, is set to revolutionize the industry by reducing variable costs per part and significantly lowering the total cost of ownership. One focus is on sustainability. The recycling rate of the new PA 12 S is said to lead the market for PA 12 materials at 85 percent. Beta users such as Materialise and Decathlon have already been able to test the benefits. Decathlon emphasized the significantly reduced post-processing times compared to other materials, due to the exceptionally smooth surfaces.

According to the Erpro Group, known as the 3D printing contract manufacturer of Chanel eyelash brushes, the high productivity and surface finishes open up completely new production possibilities in the industrial environment.
