Maker introduces free NAS case from the 3D printer

For makers looking for a flexible solution for extensive data storage, the YouTube channel makerunit presents a new, exciting 3D printing project. The self-designed housing construction serves as a compact NAS (Network Attached Storage) and desktop PC combination with space for up to six hard disks.

At the heart of the design is a sliding, vibration-damped inner frame made from 3D-printed components to accommodate 3.5″ and 2.5″ hard drives in various combinations. Integrated storage compartments provide space for a CPU cooler, mini-ITX mainboard and SFX power supply unit.

All external panels are designed as flat individual parts and can be assembled into a robust case using plug-in connections. The well thought-out design facilitates assembly and enables uncomplicated access to components. With dimensions of 275 x 210 x 210 mm, the finished NAS construction has a compact form factor. The modular design makes it feasible on most 3D printers.

The model for 3D printing and assembly instructions are available free of charge from makerunit on Printables.
