PrusaSlicer 2.7.2 released with improvements for multi-material printing

3D printer manufacturer Prusa Research has released an update to its 3D printing slicing software PrusaSlicer. The new version 2.7.2 is primarily intended to support multi-material printing with improved algorithms.

According to Prusa Research, the software was prone to artifacts and spilled layers due to rare errors in the processing of input data for multi-material slicing. In the new version, the development team therefore implemented generalized error correction mechanisms to ensure valid calculations.

In addition, the multi-material segmentation was reprogrammed from scratch. This should now eliminate all problems with spilled layers. The update also improves the color change during printing so that less contamination occurs.

In general, Prusa intends PrusaSlicer to appeal primarily to users of its own 3D printers. However, the open license means that the software can also be used for other devices. It is originally based on the open source slicer Slic3r.

According to Prusa Research, PrusaSlicer 2.7.2 is the first step for upcoming major version jumps. Among other things, the company intends to implement an improved user interface. The new version can be downloaded here.
