ChefDoodler: Sugar 3D printing pen for the bakery

Wobble Works, the company behind the original 3Doodler 3D printing pen, has unveiled its latest product on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter: the ChefDoodler. This pen uses sugar to create a variety of creations, from personalized cupcake labels to complex sugar structures.

The ChefDoodler, which is available through Kickstarter starting at $79, is an evolution of the original 3Doodler, which was also launched through Kickstarter in 2013. The idea for the sugar pen was also born in 2013, and the first prototype was developed in 2016. Since then, the team has worked continuously to improve the product.

The new 3D printing pen has different nozzles and a cleaning brush to make it easy to clean the tips. The pen can be loaded with up to five different isomalt sugar capsules in a single pen load. These can have different colors to mix shades in the same creation. The current colors are carrot, rose, forest, grape and crystal.

The team at Wobble Works believes the ChefDoodler could be used in professional and home kitchens to decorate baked goods or create stand-alone elements that can be used later for decoration. The pen could also be used to make assembled cookies from different types of cookies connected by 3D-printed sugar.

So far, more than three million 3Doodler pens have been sold. Whether the ChefDoodler will be as successful remains to be seen. Currently, the ChefDoodler has just under 700 backers and has already exceeded its self-imposed goal of $50,000. Users still have 18 days to participate in the Kickstarter campaign.
