Efficient 3D design with AI: DraftAid accelerates production drawings

Creating detailed production drawings from 3D models is often a tedious and time-consuming task for designers and engineers. The start-up company DraftAid wants to significantly speed up this process with the help of artificial intelligence and relieve specialists of repetitive tasks.

The traditional path from 3D design to the finished 2D drawing with all views, sections and dimensions is still very labor-intensive. “Experienced engineers spend on average 40 percent of their time manually creating the 2D drawings after completing a 3D model,” says a DraftAid spokesperson, explaining the initial situation.

This lack of efficiency leads to longer project lead times, higher costs and ties up valuable resources in routine work instead of using them for more demanding tasks. In addition, manual drafting carries a risk of error, which can result in inconsistencies and production problems.

DraftAid aims to eliminate this bottleneck with an AI-based solution. The software can generate precise technical drawings from any 3D model at the touch of a button – including all views, sections, dimensions and details. According to the company, this process, which previously required a great deal of care and experience, can now be reduced to just a few seconds.

DraftAid is currently available as an add-on for the 3D design software Autodesk Inventor. However, integration into other systems such as SolidWorks is already being planned. “The more interested parties tell us their requirements, the sooner we can set the next priorities,” says the company.
