Maker 3D Prints Transparent AirPods Case with USB-C Port

Maker and YouTuber Ken Pillonel has caused a stir in the past with his hacks. For example, he built a USB-C port into an Apple iPhone and he used 3D printing to make an AirPods charging case easier to repair. Now the Swiss YouTuber has made himself a transparent case for Apple’s headphones.

He built on his last AirPo project and this time used transparent 3D printing materials for his design. The result is a completely transparent case that, with a bit of post-processing, looks confusingly similar in shape to the original. Pillonel had to clean the parts with alcohol, sand and paint them after printing to achieve the desired look.

He also took the opportunity to replace the Lightning connector with his own USB-C mod. Furthermore, Pillonel relies on screws instead of glue – as he has done before – which makes repairs easier.

According to Pillonel, the rebuild is not entirely trivial. An SLA 3D printer and experience printing transparent materials are needed. In a video, however, he shows step by step how the AirPods Case can be replicated. The Maker also reports about his construction in his blog.
