The Phantom Limb Project Unveils Newest Work – A Prosthetic Inspired By Metal Gear Solid V

The Alternative Limp Project from artist and designer Sophie de Oliveira Barata created many fantastic artistry prosthetics – the latest was inspired by a computer game.

The project is called The Phantom Limb Project after the computer game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, where Venom Snake, the protagonist of the series got a bionic arm.

The project was led by Sophie de Oliveira Barata and Konami, the company behind the game development. The 85.000$ limp functions properly and replicates the bionic arm from the game. The arm has LED lights which can blink to the heart beat of James Young, who got chosen for the project, a USB port for charging his phone and other features like a torch/flashlight.

The project was also supported by Open Bionics, the 3D artist Rudi Kolenc and concept artist Neal Petty.

If you want to see more of the works from Sophie de Oliveira Barata I would recommend her TED Talk:
