Text-to-3D: Luma AI introduces Genie for the creation of 3D models

The start-up Luma has presented its generative AI “Genie“. According to the company, Genie can generate any 3D models from text commands within 10 seconds. The generation takes place as a quad mesh in standard formats, so that a wide range of applications is possible. Genie is now available online and in the Luma iOS app.

According to the company, Genie is a first step on the way to becoming an “intelligent creative partner” that works with people to develop new ideas and concepts. The company made the first test versions available online weeks ago.

In addition to the product launch, Luma also announced a Series B financing round with the participation of Andreessen Horowitz. This enabled the start-up to raise a total of 70 million dollars. According to Anjney Midha from a16z, Luma combines first-class research with outstanding product design in the field of generative AI.

To further scale its AI models, Luma is also bringing top-class reinforcement into the team. Among others, Jiaming Song, the former head of the Generative AI group at Nvidia, has been recruited as Chief Scientist. He will lead the research on foundation models at Luma.
