Turn Your Camera and Projector into a 3D Scanner Using 3Digify

Germany-based tech startup 3Digify Technologies has developed a software to take professional 3D scans using a camera and projector.

The team of three has just launched a campaign on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter for everyone to access affordable 3D scanning technology. If they get successfully funded, they will publish 3Digify partially open source.

What you need besides their 3Digify Scan software are cameras, a video projector and a computer. The software takes control of the hardware used for the 3D scanning process. It allows for you to position the devices correctly and will also guide you through the acquisition process. The actual scan is then performed by 3Digify Reconstruct and creates a 3D mesh available in common CAD file formats also suitable for 3D printing.

While the basic scanning functions will be open source, 3Digify will offer all features including high-res colour 3D scanning by subscribing and paying a small monthly fee.

If you would like to back their campaign, several packages are offered, with pledges starting at € 10.
