YouTuber works on self-replicating 3D printer and shows first results

YouTuber SunShine has unveiled a 3D printer that has some interesting features. Called Infini-Z, the device can theoretically grow in height indefinitely by printing new parts for its Z-axis. According to SunShine, the ultimate goal is to create a printer that can replicate itself.

The printer is capable of replicating plastic parts, drive systems and electronics, the YouTuber said. However, he said, metal parts and components such as motors and electronics components from the outside are still needed for complete self-replication. SunShine said it wants to develop appropriate solutions.

He is working on the project as a team and is asking the community for help and ideas. All work is to be published freely accessible. All parts of the Infini-Z 3D printer can already be downloaded from the portals Printables and Cults3D.
